Telephone assistance for families with dementia

Families dealing with dementia and Alzheimer's need not only information — but also a listening ear, human guidance, and a sense that someone sees them. That's why EMDA is inviting volunteers to join us in three areas that complement each other and can make a real difference for thousands of families in need.
First area: Support calls at the center 8889*
Amda's telephone information and counseling center, *8889, provides families with initial information, guidance, and support.
Volunteers help listen, understand the need, and help the family find the next step: a support group, counseling, information about rights, appropriate content, or another EMDA solution.
Volunteers in this field undergo training and guidance, and are not required to “know everything” — but rather to know how to listen, ask the right questions, and refer to the appropriate person. 💗
Second area: Initiated conversations with families
In addition to responding to incoming inquiries, EMDA also works to proactively establish contact with families who have already been in contact with the organization or have requested information in the past.
The goal is simple and humane: to ask how you are, to check what is most burdensome right now, and to offer one help that is appropriate for the situation. Sometimes it is a call to 8889*, sometimes a support group, sometimes written information, and sometimes just a short conversation that reminds the family that they are not alone. 💗
Third area: Digital support on social networks
Even a small action online can help. Like, comment, share, watch a video, or leave an encouraging comment on Facebook, YouTube, or LinkedIn — helping EMDA's content reach more families in need.
This is a simple, flexible volunteering opportunity that you can do from home and at a time that is convenient for you — and it is especially important in a world where many families meet EMDA for the first time through the Internet. 💗
Who is it for?
💗 For those who know how to listen and speak sensitively.
💗 For those who can dedicate a few hours a week from home.
💗 And for those who want to help families with dementia receive support, information, and a sense of security.
