How to relax and calm down

When caring for someone with dementia, it's important to remember that it's not just the patient who needs calm—the caregiver too. When the family member who is caring is calmer, the care itself tends to be better, more patient, and more beneficial; on the other hand, continuous strain on the caregiver may be harmful to both parties.
How to make it easier for ourselves, as family caregivers:
- Nurse's Breath: Before you enter the room, stop for a moment and take three deep breaths — sometimes that's all it takes to bring less stress and more compassion with you.
- Silence without guilt: You don't have to be perfect; a person with dementia may not remember what you did, but they will remember how you made them feel.
- Life didn't stop: You too are allowed to keep a little space for yourself, because resilience is not built from absolute closeness, but from balance.
- New light before spring: Even after difficult days, sometimes a small moment of breathing and hope comes — and let yourself see it too.
- Don't be left alone! Join To a local support group או Zoom, To the Facebook group Emda's And to the WhatsApp community Our; call for support and guidance at8889*, take Zoom consultation, and more.
How to calm our loved ones with dementia:
- Short trip, long breath: Go out onto the balcony together, look at the clouds and listen to the birds—light movement and an open view soothe the heart.
- Toast with a twist: Sometimes the smell of toast or a familiar food opens a door to an old memory and brings back a sense of love and home.
- A heart speaks without words: When there is no response, even a look, a smile, or a gentle touch can be a complete and soothing conversation.
- A little order, less confusion: When objects remain in the same places and the home is simpler and clearer, the sense of security also increases.
Ultimately, less pressure, more tenderness, more breathing — it's good for both the therapist and the patient. 💙
