Dementia Friends

The Dementia Friends program is a large-scale international program, operating since 2006 worldwide, which aims to change the way people view and raise awareness in the community regarding dementia. In Israel, the program is managed at the initiative of the Ministry of Health, the Amda Association , and Eshel Joint Israel, as a derivative of the national program to deal with dementia in Israel, which is led by the Ministry of Health. The goal of the program is to lead to change in the community by understanding and breaking stigma regarding the way people living with dementia in the community are treated, viewed, and approached in order to improve their quality of life and the lives of their family members, with approximately 80% of people living with dementia in Israel living in the community. Through information sessions provided free of charge as part of the program throughout the country, you can learn a little more about dementia and the ways in which you can help within the community. The bank teller, the store clerk, the pharmacist at the pharmacy, the child who doesn't understand what's happening to his grandfather, the receptionist, the taxi driver, all together can learn more about changing their approach and making the life of the person living with dementia better for him and his family.

How can organizations and authorities join?

Many organizations around the world, small and large, private and public, take part in the international program.

As part of the activities of Dementia Friends in organizations and authorities in Israel, we offer an enrichment lecture on the topic that includes:

  • A brief explanation of dementia.
  • Introduction to the symptoms of illness.
  • 5 messages from dementia friends.
  • Knowledge of the tools available in the community to assist people living with dementia.
  • Reducing risk factors – learning about a variety of preventive actions. Every action counts!
