Support groups for family members

Support group meetings for family members caring for people with dementia and Alzheimer's throughout the country, in collaboration with social services departments

Support groups Shamda is a professional companion and supporter, spread across the country, and provides a response to the needs of the primary caregiver at the level of emotional processing, behavioral adjustments and necessary changes at home. Participation is free of charge (but you can Donate to the association as they see fit).

The answers of the support groups:

  • – Understanding, acceptance, and legitimacy of a range of emotions and behaviors
  • – Emotional processing of ambivalence: guilt, grief, and anger
  • – Knowledge from the personal experience of the participants
  • – Information about the disease and alternatives for coping
  • – Mutual support and assistance between participants between group meetings

The groups provide a safe and secure place where things (that may be difficult to talk about elsewhere) can be discussed freely and in a safe and supportive atmosphere. This safe and secure place eases the difficult feelings that naturally arise as a result of caring for a person with dementia.

The groups are mixed in terms of the stages of the disease and also in terms of the role in the family (spouse or child). Most groups meet once a month and sometimes more frequently. To obtain precise details, contact the facilitator in the place of residence closest to the home (see table below).

In addition to the face-to-face support groups, there are also Zoom support groups, and additional support groups in the health insurance companies (see details at the bottom of this page).
